LIFE ON THE FARM
Exploring wisdom from nature and generations of people who have lived on earth is an amazing journey. Perhaps the most exciting we have been on so far. Many of the solutions just have to be rediscovered - and served with respect for it's genius original design.
COLLABORATION WITH SAMI ARTIST FOLKE FJELLSTRÖM
Together with the well known Sami artist Folke Fjellström we have been exploring on the possibility of Folke designing and building a bågstångskåta. Now it is completed and it is possible to visit or work from. The art and sculpture by Folke is beautiful, magic and profound. Folke has created the Sami Altar piece for the Nidaros Dome in Trondheim among beautiful pieces of art.
REGENERATIVE & NATUREBASED SOLUTIONS FOR FARMING
Last year we begun with the permaculture research & design of the farm, identifying water's path down the mountain, the wind and the sun. We are lucky it such a lovely micro climate even if we are in the mountains. During 2023 we will build our dams, water reservoirs to support the beds of greens and flowers we will nourish during the summers.
As part of permaculture is to build our soil factory, which will be the heart of a the farm and our circular regenerative system. Agro forestry and a forest garden with nut trees and even more berries is also in the planning pipe. The sheep are now at home. Eventually we will aslo have goats, pigs, chickens and perhaps a cow. As of now the wild animals call this their home and have created their paths. The moose, the fox, the squirrel and birds are having a good time.
During 2022 Maja took a PDC class with scientist Henrik Haller, Mittuniversitetet at Studiefrämjandet in Östersund studying Permaculture / Agroforestry with fellow students from Jämtland. The class focused on exploring how to apply "no dig" and run a small scale farm that isn't reliant upon fertilizer and use of external energy sources.
Maja has been studying with Ridgedale Farm in Värmland learning from Richard Perkins on how to make small farms work. During last fall she took the Food craft entrepreneurship class with focus of cheese making at Eldrimner, The county Board of Jämtland and was blown away by the art of cheese making.
Currently Maja is doing her Diploma training in Permaculture Design in the Norwegian Permaculture Association under the supervision of amazing teacher Helen Von Bothmer at Sydkosters Trädgårdar.
THE GLOBAL GOALS LAB - INNOVATION FOR PEOPLE & PLANET
In our lab we collaborate with our partners on exploring methodologies to support the management of biodiversity with and without tech/ai.
RESTORE & REPAIR BUILDINGS
Together with the association Shift Valley we are repairing the buildings this year to bring the cultural heritage of the place and it make available for guests who wants to co-work or try out long stay next to the wild. Our focus this year are restoring the three houses, the White House, the Writing lodge and the Nature Library.
The barn will serve many functions eventually and we are adjusting them as we go along.
